My Gear | Sound Recordist 2021
We’ve now got our location-sound gear to a very solid level for any one-to-three person dialogue features - all available for dry hire. Larger productions can have equipment hired in easily but this is the perfect PSC set-up for most branded content, documentary and short-film requirements.
Sound Kit:
Zoom F8 Sound Recorder at the heart of the kit (adaptable with mount to sit under a DSLR or in it’s own saddle bag). The F8 can send multiple outputs via wireless or directly input into any camera (via XLR or mini-jack) if conducting a stationary interview and you would rather not have to sync sound in post. If you are renting and moving around our Zoom H6 Hand-held may be a better choice. A warning though, that mic inputs on cameras are rarely any good (in particular RED) and you will have higher quality audio if you sync from the recorder in post.
Sennheiser MKH415 - slightly warmer sounding 416.
Oktava MK-012 Hyper-Cardiod Microphone for interior work - similar sound to Schoeps MK41.
Wireless Lavalier Systems - 2x Sanken COS 11-D’s (1x Black, 1x White), 3x Sony UWP-D11 transmitters with Sony ECM-77 Microphone’s as back up.
2x Tentacle Sync E Time-Code devices for timecode into any camera, including GoPros.
Sennheiser e845 S Hand-Held Microphone for broadcast. (Wireless on available via external rental house).
Shure SM57s.
Various Sony & Rode Shotgun Microphones with adaptions for cameras.
Additional Microphones needed for voice-over or studios: Warm Audio WA47 (Amazing take on the beautiful U47s), Shure Sm7b (the ‘BBC Radio’ microphone, perfect for clear Voice-over when on location), Shure SM81 Matched Pair Pencil Condensers (used as overheads of drum kits and guitars in studio recordings but also perfect for picking up a wide stereo image of a choir or a room that you want a rich detailed sound).
Plus many accessories from Rycote, URSA & Bubblebee including fantastic tools to hide microphones plus Booms, leads, headphones and more.
