A non-political post. I have been doing the sound on their Party Political Broadcasts for TV, including a short, outside speech from their Leader, Jo Swinson.
Time is very precious to Jo and her team during this December election so as the sound man, it is very important that you work efficiently and with consideration for the speaker to not add any extra pressure to the environment.
Using Rycote Sticky Covers for your lavalier microphone - instead of a clip that attaches to the clothing - is well needed in a situation like this. If placed correctly, you can get closer to the speakers mouth whilst keeping the mic concealed - and they are just super fast to press onto clothing! You just have to be very careful that the wire isn’t ‘tugging’ (make a loose loop in the wire with tape) and that you use the right sized wind cover so there won’t be clothing noise - 90% of the time this will just be the largest one they make!
